My career advising clients began in Newport Beach, California where I chose to specialize in individual securities analysis and portfolio construction. I was fortunate to learn the business from some terrific value investors that shunned the fad investments swirling around them and I continue with value as a core tenet today. Focusing on value metrics with a contrarian bent enhances the ability to differentiate from the product oriented herd. While Wall Street seems to pump out "give them what they want" product that is easy to sell, many such items are not necessarily in the investor’s best interest. The approach of detailed in depth research may prove more time consuming than pure marketing, however it is the best way to protect my clients and the clients of G J Kohler Investment Advisors from the perils and pitfalls that exist in this business.
